Wicklow & Glendalough
A little further south from Powerscourt lies Glendalough,
an almost mystical valley in the rolling Wicklow Mountains. Pick up a trail map at the visitor’s centre and talk to the knowledgeable staff to find out which of the many hiking routes fits your energy level and time constraints. Factor in an extra hour to enjoy the 13th-century stone abbey and cemetery, and to take pictures of the views.
This is a great stop for a picnic lunch on your route West. There’s a lot of highway between Enniskerry and Cork, so we recommend you add some nature to your journey. (Alternatively, the medieval town of Kilkenny is worth a visit for its castle and local artisans.)
