Australia’s Luxury Lodges

Longitude 131° – Uluru

Uluru

Deep in the centre of Australia sits Uluru, a solitary red plateau rising high above the ground. Also known by its English name Ayers Rock, this massive geological wonder is both an Australian icon and a sacred site for local Anangu Aboriginals.

Longitude 131 looks over Uluru from a short distance and guests are perfectly positioned to watch the rock transform from a grand grey silhouette when the sun’s rays first touch it to a masterpiece of rich red hues as it is bathed in colours of the sunset.

The lodge provides one of the most elegant tented camping experiences on the planet. Comprised of the Dune House (the central heart of the lodge, complete with lounge, library, swimming pool, and restaurant) and 15 “floating” luxury tented suites. Each has a full wall of glass overlooking Uluru, an incredibly romantic view at any time of day.Uluru Night

The remoteness of the lodge makes it one of the best places for viewing stars. Dinner is tied into the stargazing experience, as meals are served al fresco under a blanket of stars. While the night sky twinkled to life, we heard tales told by the staff astronomer. The next night, we dined on crocodile, kangaroo, and barramundi to the humming of a didgeridoo and watched a traditional indigenous dance. Then we sat and listened to the sounds of silence in the middle of this incredible desert.
